Therapy for LGBTQIA+ and Neurodivergent Folx
As a queer and neurodivergent person, I know the experience of looking for breadcrumbs that tell me a provider might understand me—while also bracing for the moment they say or do something queerphobic, transphobic, or ableist. That combination of hopefulness and skepticism can become a constant part of navigating healthcare, businesses, and other spaces. And frankly, it sucks.
At Equilibrium Counseling, we want to create a different kind of experience.
We strive to create a space where the bracing becomes less necessary—where, through your interactions with us, you experience that this is a queer- and neuro-affirming space rather than simply being told that it is.
Because we know that safety isn't something we can declare for you. It is something that develops through relationship, consistency, and experience.
And until there is enough safety, it can be difficult to get to the deeper work underneath.
You deserve a therapeutic relationship where you don't have to spend your energy wondering whether your identity will be questioned, pathologized, minimized, or misunderstood. A place where your nervous system can begin to rest. Where you can explore the complicated, tender, messy, joyful, and painful parts of being human without having to leave parts of yourself at the door.
Therapy can become a place to explore the deeper parts of who you are, understand the ways you've learned to protect yourself, heal old wounds, and develop more choice in how you want to move through your life and relationships.
You don't need to make yourself smaller, easier to understand, or more palatable to belong here.
You are welcome here. All of you. And you matter.
